Hang The DJ

As Union DJ on Friday nights 91 - 92, I'd love to know peoples'
all time favourite 'Last Three Songs Of The Night' during their time at
Keele Holiday Camp. In my day it had to be......

1: Jump Around - House of pain
2: We are family - Sister Sledge
3: Long Train Running - Doobie Brothers

Elton
90-93

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nirvana - Smells like teen spirit!(160k - 50seconds 33k modem)
New York New York!
Wonderstuff? and 'Dizzy'..... I think!
Or perhaps I am going senile too!

Jane Rose
[1991-1995]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Elton, as a sometime partner of yours I have to disagree with that list,
mine went:

1: Insanity - Oceanic.
2: Everybody In The Place - Prodigy
3: Just about any Take That song (who said students had taste? ;)

- Sam Brown

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Popular favourites from my era

Wonderstuff - Dizzy and Size of a cow
James - Sit down
Soup Dragons - I'm free
Dee light - Groove is in the heart
Waterboys - The whole of the moon
Blur - There's no other way
Very early take that

If I ever hear them (and many others) now, I'm transported straight back to the
MEGA, later to be called SHAG on a Friday night in the early 90s!
anon.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My favourites (or should I say favourites to
dance to while in a paralytic state at the 'Nightmare'
or whatever it was called later) have to be:

1) Daydream Believer
2) Relight my Fire
3) I will survive
4) Delilah (the old Tom Jones favourite)
5) Dancing Queen
Yes, I am that sad - I also remember Hang the DJ being (37k-10 seconds 33k modem)
a favourite too - ha ha Sam!!

Rachel Bond 92-95

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, in '81 the Union disco almost invariably seemed to end with Freebird
by Lynyrd Skynyrd.

( :-]) James

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ahh yes the MEGA (89-90), so dear to my heart, who remembers the days of
1. Step On (Happy Mondays)
2. Loaded (Primal Scream) (160k - 50 seconds 33k modem)
played back to back and both on 12"? Matt (The Shocking Dr) Hocking and I used to do this on a fairly regular basis, together with

3. various Stone Roses , (99k - 30 seconds 33k modem)
4. Beats International (Dub be good to me),
5. Soho (Hippy Chick), New Order (World in Motion)

Such fond memories of the DJ booth on the
Ballroom balcony, with our twin decks and new lights/smoke machine. We
nearly always ended with Theme from Batman (the sixties TV show).

Bobby Kent
(86-91)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WaterBoys - Whole of the Moon!

Ian

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear God, I'm ancient..

1. Come On Eileen - Dexy's
2. The Prince - Madness

and if people really refused to leave - 'Freebird' - Lynyrd Skynyrd

anon.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Being a "Hole in the Wall" man in my final year (1991/92) rather than a Mega (or whatever it was called then) boy, I have recollections of music of a wholly different nature, some of which still reminds me of those nights, sat huddled in groups on the floor, nursing bottles of Newcastle Brown.

The music that sticks out in my mind is

"Kerosene" and "Columbian Necktie" by Big Black,
"Too Drunk to Fuck" by the Dead Kennedy's,
"The Devil Went Down to Georgia" by whoever it was that did it,
That remake of "Supernaut" by 1000 Homo DJs or whoever it might have been, not too hot on names,
And the Levellers "One way"....

The music was always predictable in the main, but often held a few surprises slipped in for good measure. I always remember it deteriorating into self indulgent techno-rave stuff by the end of the evening though, which was popular with most, but just told me it was time to find somewhere else to drink.

Pete Gardner (1988-1992)

Mine were

New York New York
Dizzy
Angels

Jo Turner (aka Fraggle) 1994-1998

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The old favourite for those of us who left in 1998 has to be Robbie Williams - Angels - it brings back many drunken memories! I think was even the last song of our graduation ball...........

Marissa
1994-1998

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are so many more than 3 songs that remind me of the Union's Friday night SHAG (as it was and still should be)

1. Angles by Robbie
2. One more time - Daft Punk. Last night everyone sitting on the floor refusing to leave the Ballroom! 3. Then the classics New York New York and Never Forget by Take That, that were always played at the end of the night oh not to forget Love Shack and Its raining Men

The pure Cheese that was the ballroom!

Verity King

1997-2001
